**Brëjn Dëdd** was a Swedish thrash/grindcore band from Finspong (Esterjetland), which existed from 1988 to 1993. ## Composition and origin The band was founded in 1988 by drummer Dan Swanö (Dan Swano) and his friend Michael Bohlin. Swano was fundamentally indifferent to thrash — he only hoped to improve his drumming technique by playing at higher tempos. Later, Bolin (who was dating Tony's sister) suggested that they add **Tony Särkkä** (Tony Sarkka), better known by his stage name **IT**. ## Internal dynamics Svahnö initially strongly objected to inviting Tony – “a troubled child who drank, smoked and had a generally disgusting personality”. Nevertheless, it was the joint rehearsals that brought them closer together, and Tony actually introduced Svahnö to the world of extreme metal. A fundamental difference in attitude towards the band: for Svahnö it was a side project, for Tony it was a matter of life and death. Swano later admitted that without Brëjn Dëdd and Tony, his future career in extreme music would not have been possible. ## Discography and reissues The band left behind several demos that were never officially released during their lifetime. In 2018, the label **Soulseller Records** released a double compilation **«Ugly Songs 1988–1993: The 30th Anniversary Album»** with extensive liner notes by Svanö and Bolin.
