Brandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra

The Brandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Potsdam, is a relatively young orchestra consisting of some eighty musicians. It was formed in 1992 from members of the orchestra of the Hans-Otto Theater in Potsdam, founded in 1947 and specialising principally in operetta, and of the DEFA Symphony Orchestra in Babelsberg, which had a long tradition in film and television music. The new orchestra tackles a wide-ranging repertoire and its activities extend beyond Brandenburg and Potsdam to Berlin. Particular attention has been given to live performances of music for silent films such as Fritz Lang's classic Metropolis or Paul Wegener's Der Goletn und wie er auf die Welt kam. The orchestra is under the direction of conductor Manfred Rosenberg, who has had very considerable experience in this field and was formerly conductor of the DEFA Symphony Orchestra.
