Book of Maps pound out several routes of math-rock artistry from Portland, Oregon. As a trio of the basic, primal type - guitar, bass, and drums - they concoct pieces that shape-shift, detour, and turn on a note. It's all performed tightly as well, sometimes in the unison of conjunction, or with the three seemingly soloing in cognizance of each other. what separates Book of Maps from standard math-rock is the use of '70s rock stylings: the prog rock sound of the guitar and the occasional keyboards, the free wheelin nature of solos, and the occasional, near anthemic touch of their riffs.
