Artist
Boogie Down Productions (BDP) was an American hip-hop group formed in the Bronx, New York City, in 1986. The original lineup included KRS-One, D-Nice, and DJ Scott La Rock. Their debut album “Criminal Minded” was released in 1987 and presented themes reflecting social conditions in the South Bronx at the time. DJ Scott La Rock was killed later that year on August 27. The group name references a nickname for the South Bronx, known as the “Boogie Down.” Boogie Down Productions is noted for helping to introduce elements of dancehall reggae into hip-hop and for its influence on the development of socially conscious rap.
