Daniel Boeckner already has an impressive résumé in indie rock as a member of Wolf Parade, Divine Fits, and Handsome Furs. His next venture was to launch a solo career under the name Boeckner. Building on the glam/prog experimentation of his work in Wolf Parade, Boeckner's solo efforts fused the moody tone of '80s alternative music with a sure sense of intelligent pop melodicism His solo debut, 2024's Boeckner!, was a polished and passionate amalgam of guitars, vintage electronics, and vocals, all defined by a cool urgency. Daniel Boeckner was born on February 5, 1978, in Lake Cowichan, British Columbia, Canada. He joined his first band, Say Uncle, when he was still in high school, and soon after he graduated, he relocated to Victoria, British Columbia, in hopes of making music his career. One of his first projects after settling in Victoria was a group called God Shaped Vacuum; it also featured Carey Mercer, who would go on to lead Frog Eyes. God Shaped Vacuum broke up not long after releasing an album, and in 2000 Boeckner joined forces with John Pollard to start Atlas Strategic, cutting the album Rapture, Ye Minions! for a local indie imprint, Global Symphonic. Atlas Strategic split after issuing a follow-up EP in 2002, and Boeckner moved to Montreal, Quebec in search of new opportunities. In 2003, Boeckner met Spencer Krug, who had been a member of Frog Eyes with his God Shaped Vacuum bandmate Carey Mercer. Krug had an opportunity to open a show for Arcade Fire and he w
