Bodø Domkor is the choir of Bodø Cathedral which is the main church in Sør-Hålogaland diocese and the largest church in the Norwegian town Bodø. It was founded in 1954, and since then has performed a wide range of choral music. One area is the performance of major works of church music, such as Handel's Messiah, Bach's Christmas Oratorio, Verdi's requiem and masses by Haydn and Mozart. As a general rule, these works are performed annually, in recent years the beginning of Advent has been the time for such concerts. The other important area for Bodø Domkor is related to the dissemination of the Norwegian cultural heritage, with particular emphasis on northern Norwegian song and music. Texts by poets such as Petter Dass and Elias Blix, set to music by today's leading northern Norwegian musicians are some of the projects that the Domkoret has worked on and which have resulted in several recordings. Northern Norwegian folk tunes have also been important to highlight and present in new events. Bodø Domkor has a close collaboration with other choirs and musicians in the city and the region, e.g. with the artist Halvdan Sivertsen, which resulted, among other things, in the Domkoret participating on one of Sivertsen's CDs. Other projects are night jazz concerts, which have become a pre-Christmas tradition in recent years, and where the choir has had the opportunity to collaborate with some of the country's top jazz musicians.
