Artist
Robert George Pickett (February 11, 1938 β April 25, 2007), Was an American singer who found fame under the name: Bobby "Boris" Pickett. Bobby Pickett was born in Somerville, Massachusetts. His father was a theater manager, and as a 9-year-old he watched many horror films. He would later incorporate impressions of them in his Hollywood, California nightclub act in 1959. He used Karloff in his nightclub act in Hollywood in 1959 and 1960. And when he was part of the group: "The Cordials", he'd often slip in a few impersonations between songs. Boris was the crowd favorite. So one Saturday afternoon in 1962, he and friend Lenny Capizzi decided to write a song which incorporated the Karloff impression into music. They called the song: "The Monster Mash" They took their song to Gary Paxton, the former lead singer on "Alley Oop" and Flip of Skip and Flip (Cherry Pie), who at the time was one of the hottest young record producers in Hollywood. He coined the name: Bobby (Boris) Pickett and The Cryptkickers for the label credit. The song: Monster Mash has been released three times. It reached No.1 on October 20, 1962. on August 29, 1970 it found itself in the Top 100 again, by peaking the charts at No. 91. Then on May 5, 1973, it made a third re-entry, and this time went all the way to number 10. Over the years, Monster Mash has sold about 4 million copies, easily one of the most popular novelty records of all time. Pickett died at the age of 69 on April 25, 2007 in Los An
