about

Blumfeld was a German indie pop band and a prominent representative of the Hamburger Schule movement. The band was formed in 1990 and achieved early success with the release of their 1992 album "Ich-Maschine." This album was notable for its use of German lyrics during a period when English-language lyrics dominated German pop music, echoing a similar linguistic shift during the era of the Neue Deutsche Welle. The band's final studio album, "Verbotene Früchte," marked the end of their recording career. On January 22, 2007, lead singer Jochen Distelmeyer announced that the band would amicably disband following their final tour later that year. The band derived its name from the titular character in the short story "Blumfeld, ein älterer Junggeselle" ("Blumfeld, an Elderly Bachelor") by Franz Kafka. In 2014, the original lineup of Blumfeld reunited for a tour commemorating the 20th anniversary of their album "L'état et moi." It was announced that the band would disband again after the conclusion of the tour in the same year.
