Artist
Blue Flamingo is the moniker of Ziya Ertekin (born Oss, The Netherlands, 1969), a DJ, record collector and musician based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Ertekin rose to fame as a collector of 78 RPM records, released in the 1920s to 1950s. He owns a huge collection of and released three unique compilations of this vintage music: 78 R.P.M. (2008), Congo Jazz (2010) and A Search for CMS (2012). As a DJ he spins original 78 RPM shellac records, using an original 1958 Garrard 4HF record player and a 15-Watt Fender '57 Deluxe tube amplifier. 2020 saw Ertekin's long overdue début as an actual musician, songwriter and singer. His début single, 'My Kandyan Shirt', was initially released under his own name, Ziya Ertekin. He then seemed to change his mind: 'Predator's Ball' and 'Boom Nama Gan Gan' were credited to Blue Flamingo, with 'My Kandyan Shirt' being moved to Blue Flamingo's profile on Spotify. Please note the following: Blue Flamingo's albums of old 78s, African Jazz are, formally, compilation albums, compiled from his immense record collection. Some of these artists are forgotten, so obscure that they don't even have a profile of their own here on Spotify. For this reason these albums are often scrobbles as Blue Flamingo albums, with (ideally) the artist names in brackets behing the name of the track. 'Blue Flamingo scrobbles' may also be found on the profiles of individual artists. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional
