Artist
Bloody Amateur is Andy Comer, a guitar player and singer living in New York. Andy founded the band Tel Aviv (Teen-Beat) in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky, in 1994. His next band, Prosaics (Dim Mak, Matador), was named one of NYC's "25 Best New Bands" by New York magazine and a "Band to Watch" by Spin. The group toured the U.S. with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Liars, and the U.K. with the Rapture, before breaking up in 2005 β which meant that Prosaics' debut full-length for Matador Records would never see light of day. Andy has since composed original music for four films by artist Sue de Beer, and most recently appeared as a guest vocalist on Invisible Conga People's In a Hole 12" (DFA). Bloody Amateur began in late 2009 as a two-night stint by Andy at storied New York performance space The Kitchen. Next came a Teen-Beat 26th Anniversary show, headlined by Unrest; and a performance at the Park Avenue Armory for the opening of de Beer's installation/film The Ghosts (starring Jon Spencer and Jutta Koether). Bloody Amateur's first album, released on March 5, 2013, was recorded by James Baluyut (Versus, +/- {Plus/Minus}) at Sun Moon Star Corp. in Brooklyn.
