Artist
Blimey! was the one-man lo-fi indie project of Dutch musician, singer, songwriter and hometaper, Martien van Bergen (born Eindhoven, The Netherlands, 9 August 1964), who in the first half of the 1990s gained some prominence in the Dutch indie scene as the front man of Tupelo Honey. Under his Blimey! solo moniker, Van Bergen takes care of all instruments, vocals and mixdown, recording on 4 and 8-track equipment in his home studio. His music has been described as "eclectic super-lo-fi pop", "magical sound experiments" or "arty indie", drawing comparisons to acts such as Ween, dEUS, Syd Barret, Sparklehorse and The Velvet Underground. Blimey! released four full-length albums between 1998 and 2008: Contradictory nature and the struggle within (1998), Less Summer Than Some (2002), When She's In Your Head (2004) and Are You With Me? (2008). Additionally, there were two EPs: Mike and Johnny (Exhibit A) (1998) and Emily or Other Girls (2000). Van Bergen has not released any music under the name Blimey! since 2008.
