OFFWORLD SOUNDS PRESENTS BLAKJAK It’s been several years since Offworld Sounds last released an album. RTRFM recently broadcast a 2 hour retrospective about the label; the show finished with a new track from BLAKJAK. It got us thinking. Jack Lucas the man behind BLAKJAK was part of the Offworld family so it made perfect sense that the new BLAKJAK album should launch the next chapter in the label’s history. Jack Lucas played a significant role on several Offworld Sounds records; He was there at the start when the label was first formed by Pete Carroll and Stephen Mallinder and he later joined Mallinder on stage when he became guitar player with the Ku-ling Bros. Jack played guitar on the last Offworld Sounds release: Shaun Ryder’s album ‘Amateur night in the big top’ and he was later featured onstage playing guitar with Ryder during a BBC documentary. He also joined forces with another member of Happy Mondays when he added guitar parts to Bez’s Offworld solo single ‘Rattle my head’, which also featured featuring Ryder on vocals. His career in music started with legendary 90s Perth band Yummy Fur. They were one of the few bands in Australia during the early nineties who were incorporating electronics and samples into their music; using computers live on stage when they were cumbersome and very unpredictable. Yummy Fur went on to perform with many of the bands that had inspired them including The Stone Roses during the band’s first visit to Australia. They signed to Sony Music w
