Ford (Akhtya Nachttoter) in Indianapolis, Indiana after the end of his previous band, Sorath. Black Funeral is one of the earliest black metal bands from America, alongside groups such as VON, Profanatica, and Demoncy. Musically, Black Funeral is a mix of black metal, dark ambient, and industrial music. After making several demo and album releases through the 90s (including their most highly regarded works, 1995's "Vampyr - Throne of the Beast" and 1997's "Empire of Blood", as well as 1999's "Moon of Characith", which is the only ritual ambient record released by the band), Black Funeral was on hiatus for a couple years while Michael W. Ford focused on groups such as Psychonaut 75, Hexentanz and Valefor. In 2004, Black Funeral returned with "Az-i-Dahak", which showed a shift towards black metal that incorporated harsher industrial soundscapes, as well as the album "Belial Arisen", which was a demo recording from the initial era of the band. Over the next few years, Black Funeral would continue in this direction, releasing records such as "Ordog", "Waters of Weeping", and "Vukolak". These albums feature a wide array of collaborators, including members of Hexentanz, Teratism, Vrolok, and Gräuen Pestanz. In 2015, Azgorh Drakenhof of Drowning the Light joined the band, with drumming performed first by An Unnamed Spirit, then by Eldrinacht of Ancient Necromancy. As of 20
