This isn't the page for the USA Bitter:Sweet or the Malaysian Bittersweet. It's the page for Bittersweet from London, England! Bittersweet released their debut album, 'Lying, Drinking and Losing' on the homegrown Realesque Records label in June 2005. It was a startling collection of 11 songs picked from a dearth of material penned by London based singer-songwriters Roly Bailey and Mick Heath. Early incarnations of the band, both as a trio and four-piece had leaned towards a more stripped down and basic sound that tended to obscure the nuances inherent in the songs, especially during live performances. Having decided to pare the band back to its basic duo format and concentrate on crafting songs using just voices and an acoustic guitar, they were able to head down to Beehive Studios, located in a remote part of the Somerset levels and lay the foundations of the first album. Ably assisted by drummer Robin Guy and engineered by Olly Owen, what emerged was a labour of love; the resulting songs, now honed and layered combined black and white truths with technicolour brilliance - the album had a shade for every mood. Moments of euphoria, depression, fear, doubt, hate and triumph all seamlessly merged into forty-five minutes of aural pleasure.But every action screams out for a reaction, and Mick Heath left shortly before the release of the album to pursue his own goals. Undaunted, and now with sole determination Roly Bailey hit a rich songwriting vein and recruited a young new
