Bintangs (credited as The Bintangs on some of their earliest releases) are a Dutch rhythm 'n blues band. Established 1961 in Beverwijk, The Netherlands, they were initially a so-called indo rock band, but they soon began playing a rougher, louder form of R&B. The band had a six-year hiatus in the 1980s but reunited and are still active in 2024. The band underwent many line-up changes (at least three dozen of different line-ups) with founding member Frank Kraaijeveld (bass and vocals) being regarded by many as the only permanent feature, but even he was out of the band for a few years between 1972 and 1974. Commercial success has always eluded them both nationally and internationally. Only two of their early singles (notably 'Ridin' on the L&N' in 1969 and 'Travelling in the U.S.A' nearly 1970) reached the higher regions of the Dutch charts and only one of their countless studio LPs actually charted (1975's Genuine Bull). Yet, Bintangs were always a popular and respected feature on the live scene in The Netherlands and beyond. More comprehensive biographical information... Bintangs (after the Bahasa Indonesia word for "star") were established in 1961 as an indorock band, performing covers at live venues in Beverwijk. The original lineup was Frank and Arti Kraaijeveld on bass and guitar, respectively (both performed vocals), Meine Fernhout on guitar, and Jimmy Jansen on drums. Frank, in a 1985 interview, mentioned how impressed he was when he first saw the Tielman Brothers
