To support the 1991 release "Out of Time," R.E.M. traveled to Europe for a handful of promotional appearances. Having toured virtually nonstop during the '80s, the band had no plans of doing a full fledged tour. While in London, however, they played two exclusive engagements at the Borderline under the pseudonym Bingo Hand Job. Joining Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe were special guests Billy Bragg, Robyn Hitchcock and Peter Holsapple. In the spirit of the performance, the musicians themselves adopted pseudonyms like Raoul, Spanish Charlie, The Doc, Ophelia, Violet, Conrad and Stinky. While the set drew heavily from "Out of Time," the band performed covers by John Prine, Bob Dylan, Susan Vega and others.
