Binary Orchid is Gulli Gudmundsson with the collaboration of Radioactivity: Arve Henriksen Wolfert Brederode One Hand: Jozef Dumoulin Lieven Venken http://www.binaryorchid.net/ Gulli Gudmundsson (Born 1971) is an Icelandic double bass player settled in Holland. Since his arrival in 1993 he has earned himself an opinion of an exellent player with a distinctive sound, which allowed him cooperation with some of the most prominent Dutch musicians. The projects he has been involved in range from Rocky Horror Picture Show (Reykjavik `91) to European Jazz Youth Orchestra (summer 2000) and Eric Vloiemans Quintet. After trying out several studies such as recording engineering and philosophy he settled on the Royal Conservatory in the Hague where he finished a masters degree (UM) in jazz double bass playing spring `99. First with Jacques Schols and then with Hein van de Geyn and Frans van der Hoeven he learned the rudiments of his art in a multicultural environment. There he met the people who make the core of the new generation of modern European jazz. Among the bands Gulli Gudmundsson plays with currently are Eric Vloeimans Gategrash, Natasza Kurek Group, Vansina-Vanbruggen-Gudmundsson Trio, Atlandshafid, Futhark, and others. He also has an own band, BINARY ORCHID, that focuses on his compositions and free improvisation. Prompter is a cooperation with Wolfert Brederode making music for theaters.
