William Patrick Corgan Jr. (born March 17, 1967) is an American musician, singer-songwriter, and professional wrestling promoter. He is best known as the co-founder, lead guitarist, primary songwriter, singer, and only consistent member of the alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins. Corgan is recognized for his influence on the popularization of alternative rock. He has also been the owner and promoter of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) since 2017. Corgan formed The Smashing Pumpkins in Chicago in 1988 with guitarist James Iha, and bassist D’arcy Wretzky and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin joined soon after. The band achieved commercial success and critical acclaim throughout the 1990s through strong album sales and large-scale tours. Following the band’s break-up in 2000, Corgan and Chamberlin formed the band Zwan. After Zwan disbanded, Corgan released the poetry collection "Blinking with Fists" (2004) and the solo album "TheFutureEmbrace" (2005) before reforming the Smashing Pumpkins in 2007 with a lineup that has frequently changed around him. This version of the band has released several albums and toured extensively. In October 2017, Corgan released "Ogilala", his first solo album in more than a decade, followed by "Cotillions" in 2019. In addition to his music career, Corgan co-founded Resistance Pro Wrestling in 2011. He joined TNA Wrestling in 2015 and served as its president in 2016, leaving later that year.
