about

Bill Jerpe is a singer songwriter from upstate New York. He was an original member of the group Brass Buttons from Rochester. After leaving Brass Buttons Bill Jerpe was signed to Epic Records and released two 7" singles under the name Bill Hjerpe in the late 60's. One critic suggested that the singles "sounded like Bob Dylan on speed" After being released from Epic Records Bill dropped the H at the beginning of his last name. He then moved to Saugerties, NY and recorded the near perfect Bill Jerpe by Bill Jerpe which was originally released on Shortwheel Records in 1970. The records production sounds somewhat like the Velvet Underground with a folk/country tinge, and the vocals have a very Nashville Skyline-esque sound. There are no known recordings after the self titled record, but Bill Jerpe is credited as the song writer on a number of soul and country tracks released through out the 60's and 70's.
