Bill Bourne (born William Sigurd Bourne in Red Deer, Alberta, on 28 March 1954; died 16 April 2022) was a Canadian musician and songwriter. A multiple Canadian Juno Award nominee and winner, Bourne used traditional music elements from around the world. As well as his solo work, he was one half of the duos Bourne & MacLeod (with Alan MacLeod ) and Bill Bourne & Shannon Johnson, and was a member of Scottish band The Tannahill Weavers and, from 2000, the string collective Tri Continental. Bourne was raised in a musical family in rural Alberta, Canada. When he was two years old, he was known to sleep behind the piano at country dances. His parents played dance music in community halls in beautiful farming country. The love of nature and of music and of people gathering for celebration has been with him for his whole life. A multiple Canadian Juno Award winner, Bourne received international acclaim for his recordings and live performances. A mainstay on the international roots scene, life on the road is reflected in his music - a combination of World Beat, Blues, Cajun, Celtic, Folk, Flamenco, Funk, Poetry and more. Bourne formed the duo Bourne & MacLeod with Alan MacLeod; the pair won a Juno Award. Bourne was also a member of the traditional Scottish band, The Tannahill Weavers.
