Artist
Ash Weis, also known as Biawanna, expresses her identity as a queer woman of colour of Fijian and German descent through her R&B, indie/dance-pop music. This Canadian singer explores themes of love, sex and mental health, as well as collaborating with a variety of artists in different genres. The title of her eponymous project is inspired by her mother's indigenous Fijian background, as 'Biawanna' is the name of a "a very strong woman in the South Pacific,β who gave birth to the chief that the singer is a descendant of. Through this figure, she taps into the strength she uses to thrive as an upcoming artist. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
