Bias Tape's first full-length CD, "A Part", was recorded at Hyde Street Studios in San Francisco with sound engineer Chris von Sneidern. Released October 2008, it's songs speak in essence to the idea of continuum, that though our perspectives consume us we are but one part of an evolving, continuous whole. The music of Bias Tape is carefully crafted under the keen supervision of Amal Bisharat as lead singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. Having spent many years studying the vocal techniques of the early baroque style, and earning her BA degree in Vocal Performance in 1998, she brings a depth of vocal range and ability to the indie/folk songs she writes. Other members include Tom Huber on guitar; Bob Smolenski cello/ukulele; Sarah Cluff on bass; and Michael Russell on drums. Collectively, the band has worked with a wide variety of producer/musicians including Steve Albini (Pixies, PJ Harvey, Nirvana, Will Oldham), Kramer (Luna, Galaxy, 500, Low), Scott Solter, and Desmond Shea. Recently, Bias Tape was invited to the KPFA 94.1 FM Berkeley studio for a full hour of interview and live music.* The program, "Full Circle", aired nationally on April 27th, 2007, and can be still be heard online in the KPFA archives. Weeks after the show, host Rose Kitapchi had this to say: "Everyone here has "Marco Polo"** indelibly on the nugget and we love you!" Of the musical comparisons made about Bias Tape, those most helpful with classification are: Cat Power, Billie Holiday,
