Bert Dockx ( Antwerp , 1980 ) is a Belgian composer, singer and jazz guitarist who trained at the Jazz Studio and the Royal Conservatory of Brussels . In 2008 he founded Flying Horseman , a band that originally started as a solo project. [1] Flying Horseman was nominated for two Music Industry Awards in 2013 ('album of the year' and 'alternative'). Dockx himself was nominated in the 'best musician' category in 2013 and 2014 . He also won the biennial KU Leuven Culture Prize 2015-2016. [2] Dockx is also a guitarist with the instrumental bands Dans Dans , Briqueville , Ottla and Sweet Defeat . In the theater he made music for various companies, including HETPALEIS , Het Toneelhuis , De Tijd and Theater Zuidpool . For the performance Empedocles by Theater Zuidpool he composed and played a soundtrack with elements from rock, classical, jazz, ambient and abstract improvisation. In 2013 he curated the first volume of A Track at the Concertgebouw in Bruges , where he discussed his musical influences. At the end of 2014, Bert Dockx ventured to create an intimate, solo album full of poetic, impressionistic music under the name Strand in Dutch. In the spring of 2015, Bert was the musical guest on the tour of “Saint Amour” and in May of the same year he received the prestigious, biennial culture prize from KU Leuven.
