Born in Arkansas. Was all state in basketball all four years of high school. Served in Korean war with the USAF. Married Dorothy Ingram. Had four children. His Uncle was the house band at a club in Chicago and taught him to play guitar. Soon Benny took over for his Uncle and was joined by sax player Ace Cannon and others. He had a knack for writing songs. Some were top 40 at the time. He quit playing professionally to raise his family before becoming famous. Benny was a Teamster truck driver for over thirty years before retiring to live in East Texas. Benny Was the Commander of the American Legion in Gun Barrel Texas.
