Artist
Affectionately known as 'La Pere du Rai (The Father Of Rai)', Messaoud Bellemou helped usher in a new era for Algerian dance music. Originally a trumpet player in a village band during the 1960s, Bellemou became known for incorporating western instruments - including saxophone, trumpet, violin, lute and accordion - into his music. His style is influenced by a number of genres, ranging from jazz and rock to flamenco and Latin music.
