Hailing from an inland lab on Antarctica, Belle!Funk was a musical collective of cold weather researchers from across the globe. An international team of scientists funded by the Royerson & Wilkes Co. set up the Kent Research Station in Antarctica, seventy miles inland from the Casey Research Station, in 2002. Led by internationally renowned Scottish Geophysicist and Nobel Laureate Anderson Kent, the research team was Anton Dougrent (Geophysics, France), Suzana Wallace (Botany, Scotland), and Michael R. Dean (Biology, U.S.A.). They discovered in the aftershocks of an earthquake that there were subterrestrial heat pockets far into the mainland of Antarctica that could potentially be used to generate power for a small, self sustaining settlement. They quickly set out to investigate the strange phenomenon occurring much farther inland than any other research base dare go. The four had been working in isolation since March of 2002, attempting to introduce foreign plant life to the small tracks of fertile soil that had been exposed due the subcontinental thermodynamic currents. In the early winter of 2005, after months of no transmissions from Kent, there was a distress beacon broadcast. A team from the Casey Research Station set inland to answer the call, but when they arrived at the base there was no sign of the Kent team.
