Poet, singer and composer BEATRIZ AZEVEDO is a Brazilian multi-artist. She graduated in Performing Arts and studied at Mannes College of Music and Jazz and Contemporary Music Program in New York. She won the "Bolsa Virtuose", a grant from the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. The label Biscoito Fino released her new CD ALEGRIA (Joy), with 12 original songs composed and produced by Beatriz Azevedo, and is joined by legends TOM ZÉ and VINICIUS CANTUARIA. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and New York, the CD has Anat Cohen, Bocato, Cristovão Bastos, Jorge Helder, and Jamie and Michael Leonhart. In the last few years, Beatriz Azevedo performed at many international events such as Popkomm Festival (Berlin, Germany), Dunya Festival (The Netherlands), Copa da Cultura World Soccer Cup (Germany), Premiere Brazil at MoMA, the Museum of Modern Art in New York (United States), and the Verizon Music Festival (United States). Beatriz Azevedo's music features on the compilation Brazil: The Essential Album alongside Tom Jobim, Chico Buarque, Elis Regina, Joao Gilberto, and other Brazilian masters. It was released in the UK by Union Square Music. Also in England the CD Bossa Nova Nights contains a further two tracks by Beatriz Azevedo. Bum Bum do Poeta, Beatriz Azevedo’s first CD, was released in Brazil by Caetano Veloso's label Natasha Records and in Japan by Nippon Crown Records. Beatriz Azevedo appeared as a special guest with Cyro Baptista in the show Beat the Donkey in New York
