Performance and visual artist, Pop Icon, and his artist husband, Christopher Icon, formed Bear Monarch in October of 2008. Their first studio album, entitled 'Faster Monarch…and the Naked Past', was released in June of 2009. Their sophomore album 'Truth & Lies' was released in October of 2011, and the companion movie by filmmaker and poet, Steven Ortega, was released in December of 2011. The third album, entitled 'The Pop Album', was released in July of 2013. Keith Magnetik from the bands As All Die, and Noir Magnetik joined the band after the release of 'The Pop Album'. Bryin Dall from Thee Majesty, and Hirsute Pursuit is set to work on the next solo release from Bear Monarch's main member, Pop Icon. The Icons have stated that the main intention for their music is to be art for your ears. It is heavily influenced by the stories they would tell each other, and by bands such as Yoko Ono, Xiu Xiu, As All Die, Goblin, Throbbing Gristle, Lady Jaye, Sleazy, Hirsute Pursuit, Thee Majesty, Noir Magnetic, Power Through Will, Coil, Psychic TV (PTV3), and Dead Meadow.
