There are at least two acts with the name Bear Country. 1. After some line up changes and evolution in sound since the band’s inception in 2005, Slumber Party Records’ Bear Country features a sound one might expect from life on the Plains in the modestly populated city of Omaha, Nebraska. In 2006 they released their first collection of songs entitled “Our Roots Need Rain”. While Bear Country’s sound on their debut album “Our Roots Need Rain” (2006) features the catchy melodies of airy folk-pop, it has diverged drastically after scrapping many recordings the band had worked on in 2006-07. Their newest – and “start-over” – recording is due out in the winter of ‘09/’10 and is entitled “Frozen Lake.” “Frozen Lake” shows what Bear Country have been trying to reveal for the past few years, pretty harmonies, intimate lyrics, and the occasional feedback freak-out. Bear Country was a band formed in central Florida in the early 2000’s which broke up and founding members are now preforming under the name The Sugar Oaks.
