He's a solo artist living in Montevideo, Uruguay. A multi-instrumentalist with a love for quirky, rambling folk music, Risso is just one of more than 2,000 artists who participated in this year's RPM Challenge, The Wire magazine's annual open invitation to musicians to write and record an entire album in just one month. After four short weeks of head scratching Be Quiet came up with an album he's calling Between Narrow Moments, Narrower Instants. "I'll try to give you an idea of the conditions where this record was made," says Risso. "I'm married, two sons, one of five years old, the other almost one. I have a job, out of home from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., small house, only two bedrooms. The computer (is in) mine. Most of the songs were conceived when locked in the bathroom... I just had to 'Be Quiet'." When Risso began the RPM Challenge, he says he had no plan or idea of how he was going to pull it off. But by mid-February he had 12 demos he captured on a mini cassette recorder. Later he transferred the songs to his PC and began writing lyrics, something he says he's never done before. "I was more surprised by the results than anyone. (It was) a great experience."
