Gary Bartz is an american saxophonist and clarinetist, born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1940. He has worked with Miles Davies, Charles Mingus and Max Roach among others. His music is a combination of jazz, funk and soul with african music and avantgarde jazz influences. Winner of a Grammy Award in 2005 for his contribution to McCoy Tyner's album Illuminations, he currently teaches at the Oberlin Music Conservatory.
