BAPS was formed in Cambridge, UK in 1998 mainly from members of Bellerophon and Penultimate Semitones around the same time as the formation of Tantony, Austraugauth and Honkie Tonk Sammie. It was conceived as a viral band such that anyone who had collaborated musically with any other member at any time could be considered also part of BAPS. Consequently the BAPS moniker seemed to stick particularly when no other suitable name could be found for a given combination of musicians. BAPS is musically a diverse mash of electronic synth sounds, guitars, egg slicer, omnichord, scaffo and vocals though many variants upon this general theme have been used. Recordings are normally made live with minimal use of processing or overdubs.
