about

The name “Baby Lemonade” comes from a track on Syd Barrett’s album Barrett. There are two bands called Baby Lemonade: (1) The U.S. Baby Lemonade formed in 1992 in Los Angeles. They are contemporaries of the Wondermints and The Negro Problem, and consist of guitarists Rusty Squeezebox and Mike Randle, bassist Dave Chapple, and drummer David Green. They have released three albums of southern-Californian power pop, but are also known for touring with Arthur Lee for many years as the last line-up of his band Love. (2) The British Baby Lemonade formed in 1986. Within a few months they were recording demos and released the song “Jiffy Neckwear Creation” on flexi-disc (with The Bachelor Pad’s “Girl of Your Dreams”), which became Sounds magazine’s “Record of the Week” in February 1987. The original band line-up only played a handful of gigs, with the debut gig in Edinburgh (December 1986) consisting of three original numbers plus two covers, then the first number was repeated! The “Secret Goldfish” / “Real World” single (produced by Douglas Hart of The Jesus and Mary Chain fame) was released on 27 June 1987 and spent five weeks in the NME indie single charts, reaching #9. After some line-up changes the album One Thousand Secrets followed in late 1988. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
