Black Lanterns (BLKLNTRNS) was the collaboration between Flagstaff, Arizona based producer/multi-instrumentalist Andrew Paffrath and writer William Cross. Black Lanterns performed and held space for the last time September 27, 2014. William Cross can be found mixing ambient and drone as OBSIDIAN. Andrew Jeweleye can be found writing, producing and performing as Onieronaut. Founded: Summer 2011 Disbanded: Autumn 2014 Established in the waning days of Summer 2011, Black Lanterns quickly became an unconventional departure into storytelling and space-holding soniscapes; betraying the conventions of EDM and carving out their niche; reaching into the minds of all within earshot. Combining progressively inventive beats, carefully crafted synth and bass spaces alongside a cadre of traditional instruments, Black Lanterns shine both in the studio and on stage. Improvisation dominates live performances which unfold and mutate moment to moment into swelling, colossal walls of sound that ebb away into the ether just as quickly as they came. Sharing gatherings with the likes of Little People, Baths, Thriftworks, Random Rab, Desert Dwellers, HUMANS, Russ Liquid, Mansions on the Moon, Whitebear, and many more; Black Lanterns pride themselves on their adaptability in the constantly evolving electronic music environment.
