Not many one-man bands can be appropriately named "Big Hat Gang," but the expansive sound of Mario Consunji's solo project justifies, if not requires, a name that suggests a collective effort. A Manila native turned London resident, Consunji's largely instrumental, art rock, post-rock and jazz-tinged works are best described as cinematic; they provide broad renderings of mood, tension, movement, and place. In his 2011 self-titled debut EP, Consunji offered a soundtrack for disparate environments (track ovals, backyards, and space launches) alternately marked by a sense of awe, boredom, anticipation, and exhilaration, .
