Unfortunately, South Korea has never had a very large or diverse underground music scene. BanRan (반란 反亂) was formed in 2007 to try to change this situation. Fueled on angry disillusionment with mass conformity, mandatory military conscription, and the lack of creativity around them; and on a strict diet of American hardcore of the 80's (ala Siege, Infest, Out Cold) these guys shredded through their first 2010 demo "Stop Kor" with a genuine ferocious snottiness that transcends bullshit record-collecting hip radar and the popularity contest that is the current growing state of hardcore. Tearing apart social stigma in Korea, challenging the status-quo of fashionable jock metalcore, and proving that hardcore punk is still a real threat beyond fashion and cliche', Banran takes no prisoners, Look for their 'Stop Kor' 7inch on Holland's "Way Back When Records" in 2011.
