Artist
Bērnu Rīts is sound impromptu collective based in Rīga, Latvia in 2007 by architect and sound artist Maksims Šenteļevs. It never had fixed members. Collective usually gathers architects and artists keen on collaborations and sonic researches. Most instruments and objects are found or selfmade, field recordings are recorded by members of collective or friends, no electronic instruments used, no proper tunings or technics of playing are applied. Performances are beforehand discussed among participants and represented in graphic schemes and scores. All performances are site-specific rituals, that are never played twice. Schemes and scores set up main framework of spatial structures that are filled with sound objects improvised on location. Collective almost never involves in rehearsals. General mood of soundscapes is shifting in-between forest fairytale, recycled string workshop and electric motor drone. Genres as forest folk, collective improvisation, musique concrète or lo-fi mentioned as references would be rather speculations then reflections, as methods employed by group evolve, expand and regress according to collective imput of performers and frequent exchange of experience with other artists and friends around the world. http://www.bernurits.com User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
