The two sisters, Anita and Tove Bøygard, are the duo Bøygard. They grew up in a small mountain valley, called Aal in Hallingdal, in Norway, and they have been playing instruments, singing and writing songs, since they were children. In 1999, they played at Norwegian Wood, a big music festival in Norway. After this performance, they started working with the American born producer Leif Johansen. This brought them to USA, where they have played concerts in Nashville and New York. They have also recorded some songs with the American producer Jay Ferguson, in his studio in Santa Barbara, California. Both Tove and Anita are very engaged in their work on helping drug addicts and other people on the streets that needs help and care. Their experience from many years in their line of work, are reflected in their lyrics. The music can be described as acoustic folk-rock. It is naked and honest, with the vocals as the main instrument, with a rough acoustic guitar. They use a lot of harmony vocals. They always manage to create a good atmosphere at their concerts, with their strong lyrics, beautiful harmonies, and rhythmic playing.The music lends elements from Irish and American folk music, and has a distinctive characteristic sound that mesmerizes the audience. The lyrics have a quality and depth that makes people really listen. Bøygard has also developed their own way to sing harmonies.
