I Gusti Ayu Laksmiyani, known as Ayu Laksmi was born into a musical family in Singaraja, Bali on November 25, 1967. Ayu started singing at the age of 4 and never stopped performing since. She is a very active member of the local entertainment community and performed at numerous festivals and events in Bali and throughout Indonesia. Ayu is a self taught artist - entertainer, vocalist and dancer. As with all creative beings, she strives to achieve perfection, so she is constantly developing and honing her artistic skills, especially as song writer and composer. Her song "Tri Kaya Parisudha" (i.e Good Thinking, Good Speaking, Good Deed) is featured on a spiritual album Nyanyian Dharma, which was released 2009. For the past six years, she has performed with many known national World music artists and bands, who all cherish her very unique vocal performances, especially her renditions of Kidung, a Balinese Hindu religious chant. In more recent years, she began to add yet another skill to her creative repertoire - acting. Ayu discovered her talent and passion for acting only late in her life, but thanks to the believe, the trust and the careful direction of her friend Garin Nugroho, she performed as female lead in the award winning and internationally acclaimed movie "]Under the Tree" (2008).
