Axl Makana (born in Wismar, Germany; accurate name: Axel Steinhagen) is a musician, singer & songwriter living in Berlin, Germany. Axel Steinhagen moved to Berlin in 1991 and started an ethnology studies. He already sang in a band in his native town Wismar and cast about new members for a band project in Berlin. It was named Mutabor after a magic word from the fairytale 'Kalif Storch'. From the mid 1990's Mutabor advanced to a Folkpunk-Band in which Axel Steinhagen was able to achieve and live out his musical ideas. In 2006 Mutabor induced their farewell-tour with the 'Willkommen in der Schablone EP'. That tour concluded at a concert in front of 2500 fans at Yaam/Berlin. In February 2006 Axel Steinhagen met music producer Kraans de Lutin, who got into the songs for the new solo album and offered collaboration. Good teamwork and a creative atmosphere amoung them led to first results quickly. So the song 'Welcome to Makana' got onto the Riddim-Sampler of the August/September issue and immediately got airplay on 'Radio Multikulti' in Berlin. In summer of 2006 Axl Makana did a street-concert-tour through Germany, which was co-organized by his fans. In September Axl Makana supported the 'Echo & Smoke-Tour' by Martin Jondo. In fall/winter of 2006 Axl Makana made did a 'warming-up-tour' through clubs in Germany. Because of the great demand at his concerts Axl Makana decided to release the 'Zum Glück gibt's Schokolade EP' as preview to his upcoming soloalbum in December 2006.
