Avi Peretz (In Hebrew: אבי פרץ), sometimes transliterated as Avi Perez, is an Israeli singer and songwriter known for his contributions to Mizrahi and Israeli music. Born on December 9, 1966, in Bat Yam, Israel, Peretz was introduced to music at a young age, learning to play the keyboard before launching his career at just 13 years old. His grandfather was a well-known poet in Morocco. Peretz gained national recognition in 1992 with his breakout hit קשה לי (It's Hard for Me), followed by his debut album גלגל הזמן (Wheel of Time), which sold tens of thousands of copies and solidified his place in the Israeli music industry. His rendition of שיר אהבה ישן (Old Love Song) further expanded his popularity. His second album, אליך (To You, 1993), featured his acclaimed cover of ערב ערב (Every Night), originally by Greek-Israeli legend Aris San. In 1995, his third album, לך שרתי (I Sang to You), introduced another set of beloved songs, including his duet with Yardena Arazi on שיר של יום חולין (A Song of an Ordinary Day) and his rendition of אוריאנה by Rivka Zohar. In 1997, Peretz released שלווה (Peacefulness), which featured compositions by Yair Rosenblum. Notable tracks included היה לי חבר היה לי אח (I Had a Friend, I Had a Brother) and מיכלי, a song written by Rosenblum’s companion shortly before his passing. A 1998 double album collection compiled Peretz’s biggest hits, featuring four new songs, including בך מאוהב (In Love with You) and אור שבעת הימים (Light of the Seven Days),
