Aul' Grey Whistle are based in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. Since forming in 2005, Aul’ Grey Whistle have quickly developed their unique sound, blending traditional Celtic music with a wide-range of contemporary styles. The result is an exciting and unforgettable performance of haunting airs, soulful blues, stirring reels and wild jazz. Aul’ Grey Whistle features Michael Heytman (guitar, banjo and vocals), Johnston Davidson (bodhran and vocals), Andy Vann (bass guitar, banjo, mandolin) and Megan Franklin (silver, bamboo and alto flutes and tin whistle). In bringing the creative talents of these four experienced musicians together, Aul’ Grey Whistle continue to evolve their unique sound; the effect is a mesmerising performance of freewheeling virtuosity. Aul’ Grey Whistle have performed regularly for functions and festivals including Yungaburra Folk Festival (2005), Palm Creek Rainforest Festival (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), David Suzuki Presentation (2006), and they are a regular on the Townsville and Magnetic Island folk scene. Aul’ Grey Whistle played to an enthusiastic Woodford audience in 2007/08 (Duck & Shovel stage), their debut performance at the festival receiving wide acclaim amongst audience and fellow performers alike. For the poms out there the name is of course an 'homage' to the 1970s and 80s UK TV Music show "The Old Grey Whistle Test". Johnston and Andy are both willing to attempt the theme tune to this on the harmonica. User-contributed text is avai
