Artist
August Betke is a musician from Chicago Illinois who records indie rock with the occasional flair for folk and experimental music like noise rock, post rock, and shoegaze. His first full single and EP was released under the name "canyon", while future releases including his first LP were released under "sea housing". However, all of that music has now been re-uploaded on streaming services under 2 compilation albums credited to his own name. The record's original forms of release are still available on his bandcamp page. His first single and EP claim classic indie rock influence from groups like Yo La Tengo and Pavement, while later releases/collaborations would show some slightly broader influences. His first full length album, "sea housing", has elements of folk, noise rock, shoegaze, post rock, and ambient scattered throughout the 10 track run. His recordings are all done by himself (besides the occasional collaborative release) and self produced and released. His lo-fi attitude comes of course from the indie rock heroes before him, Phil Elverum, Stephen Malkmus and Graham Smith. His music is only digitally available via his Bandcamp page and to download from his website. August Betke's favorite Beatles album is the White Album, and his favorite record from 2024 was "Brat". His biggest musical inspirations are bodies of water, Kurt Vonnegut, and the two cats he used to have. Every one of his songs is about love, in one way or another. He's in a rock band too, called
