Atrium Noctis was a Melodic Black Metal band from Cologne, North Rhine-Westphalia, whose style evolved from symphonic black metal with gothic influences. The band was founded by keyboardist Hydra Gorgonia in 2002. Initially strongly influenced by Gothic and Symphonic Black Metal, they later began integrating Pagan and Viking/Humppa elements into their music. This was followed by their second album in 2005, The Eyes of Medusa. In 2010, the band finally found a label (Naturmacht Productions), and their third album Home was released. The CD also included a video for the track Spuren eines Wolfes (“Traces of a Wolf”). From 2011 onwards, the band went through frequent lineup changes, which delayed the release of their fourth album Aeterni until 2015. To mark their 20th anniversary, Atrium Noctis entered the studio to re-record a selection of their previous songs. For the first time, they decided not to work at Stonehenge Studio, where all previous Atrium Noctis albums had been recorded, but instead chose Gernhart Studio in Troisdorf. There, with professional producer Martin Buchwalter, they achieved a powerful and modern sound. In March 2024, Hydra Gorgonia lost her battle with cancer, and the band subsequently split up.
