Astronauto is as much a musical group as it is our first and only true line of defense when the time comes to establish a formal committee to deal with matters of human-cyborg relations. Born through the violent matrimony of warm blooded mammal love & cold electronic malevolence, islands made of human folk songs emerge out of the ambient circuit board seas, sine waves crashing on acoustic guitar shores, echoed and modulating winds intertwining the primal with the progressive. On stage performing as a one man band (more specifically in a band with one human and several robots) with a guitar, analog synth n a ton of pedals setup or in the studio recording most of the instruments himself, John T Velsor created the group Astronauto as an inventive way to capture simultaneously the intimacy of a solo performer and the energy of a band. Curiously blending acoustic song structures with electronic soundscapes, melodic and plaintive compositions flow in and out of experimental sound excursions to form a yin yang whole that pays homage to the past with every step toward the future.
