Aston Kalmari is a Finnish rock band from Lappeenranta. The band was formed in November 2018, when singer-guitarist Aleksi Arola decided to expand his solo project into a band. The band was joined by Markus Tuhkalainen (drums), Ville Vuorio (bass) and Samu Pellikka (solo guitar). Arola and Pellikka already knew each other from the Lowlife Hero skatepunk-band from Lappeenranta/Imatra. The band’s first official single Äiti oli taas oikeessa was out on February 28, 2020. Due to the corona pandemic, many of the band’s 2020 gigs were canceled or postponed until autumn. The band warmed up Kotiteollisuus rock band at Kulttuuritila Nuijamies Quarantine Live concert on Good Friday. On the same day, the band also released their second official single, Filminauha. Aston Kalmari's self-published debut album Ajatusten ampiaspesä was released on streaming services on May 8, 2020. During 2020, the band toured in Hyvinkää, Kouvola and Lappeenranta. In November, Aston Kalmari visited Deep Noise Studios in Kouvola to record their next release, which was the Sininen huone EP with five new songs. The release deals with the nodes of the human mind such as depression, the difficulty of talking about emotions and seeking acceptance from others. The title track of the EP was selected as the theme song for the Mielitekoja Rahapeliriippuvuus podcast. On April 23, 2021 the single Täältä lentää lautanen was released. The single tells about relationship violence and is performed with The Voice of Fi
