Askatasuna are a ska-punk band from San Jose, Costa Rica. It started as a Garage band formed by Alonso Rodriguez (Guitar), Cesar Bustos (Bass) and David Ortiz (Drums)who met each other on weekends to play covers from their favourite latin punk bands such as 2 minutos and Attaque 77, they called this garage band "La trama" As soon as they found another guitarist and a vocalist they started writing their own lyrics, and called this new project "Askatasuna" which resembles Freedom in a basque word. The band now plays latin ska-punk influenced by bands like Los fabulosos cadillacs and Autenticos Decadentes, they are now very well known in the Costarrican rock stage, which is small but keeps growing over time. The band is currently experimenting with new sounds and creating more songs for the temptative titled album that is expected to be released somewhere in 2008.
