Artist
Ashley Henry (born in London in November 1991) is a British jazz pianist, vocalist, composer, producer, and bandleader. In 2016 he graduated from The Royal Academy of Music, performed with Jason Marsalis, and collaborated with Terence Blanchard and Jean Toussaint. He is the youngest ever person to feature at the International Piano Trio Festival performing with Robert Glasper (that same year) and performed at the final of the Unisia International Piano Competition in South Africa. In January 2017, at the age of 25, he was commissioned as guest resident Musical Director for both Jazz Café, London, and Ronnie Scotts, London, and was a FADER MAGAZINE 2017 Emerging Artist. The period from 16 January to 9 March 2017 saw him recording his second full studio sessions in London. Collaborating with Luke Flowers (Cinematic Orchestra), MC Mattic (Nowadays France & NY), Jean Toussaint, Monte Booker (Soulection), Alicia Olatuja (President Obama Inaugurations – Unlimited Myles), Moses Boyd (Brownswood) and Anthony Joseph (Strut Records). March 2017 saw him nominated for that year’s Jazz FM Award as Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Live Experience of the Year, the latter for his performance at the London Southbank. His album, Beautiful Vinyl Hunter, was released in 2020. It was Jazz Japan’s Album of the Year, nominated as a BBC 6 Music’s Album of the Year, becoming only the second jazz album ever to do so.
