Ashes of the Armada is an unsigned, self-released metal band from Hutchinson, KS. Since their formation, they've become a driving force for Kansas metal by drawing a more diverse fan-base into the stagnating Deathcore / Straight-Edge scene. Their eclectic and border-line ridiculous style is difficult to categorize. It draws many popular influences: Off chords, odd tempos, advanced time signatures, growled / screamed vocals, and the occasionally punishing "wall-of-sound" distortion but draw just as heavily from first-wave Emo with their subdued passages punctuated by heartfelt, "clean" vocals, 60's Jam bands with their long, improvised guitar noodling, and have been known to play sets while wearing splatter paint on their skin and shirts. The band calls this "Passionate Bipolar Mathcore" which is just another example of their firm dedication to not caring about labels and focusing on having a good time with their music and their fans.
