Star One is a band conceived by Arjen Lucassen. The concept is near-identical to that of his main project Ayreon (concept albums with multiple vocalists and styles). An album, Space Metal was released, along with a live DVD/CD set called Live on Earth. In October 2010, a new Star One album titled “Victims of the Modern Age” was released, featuring mostly the same vocalists and instrumentalist as the first album. A special edition contains a second disc with five additional tracks as well as a making-of video. The concept is based on movies (as was Space Metal) - and in this case based on post-apocalyptic ideas about our own planet. # Star One: Worth Your Attention This project distinguishes itself through its ambitious fusion of science fiction storytelling with progressive metal's technical demands. Rather than retreating into fantasy tropes, Lucassen grounds his narratives in contemporary anxieties and cinematic frameworks, creating a conceptual richness that rewards sustained listening. The rotating lineup of vocalists—each bringing distinct interpretive approaches—prevents the sound from calcifying into predictability. What emerges is less a conventional album and more a collaborative exploration, where instrumental virtuosity serves narrative purpose rather than eclipsing it. For listeners curious about how progressive rock can engage meaningfully with ideas while maintaining musical sophistication, this represents a genuinely compelling entry point into Lucassen
